Hiking Information
Hiking: Almost all of the system trails in the Lincoln National Forest are easily negotiated by hikers and back packers as well as horse riders.
Most of the trails tie into the crest Trail #25 which runs southwest from Monjeau Lookout to Ski Apache ski area and then north to Nogal Canyon.
If coming from appreciably lower altitudes, you should allow a day or two to acclimate before attempting any strenuous hikes with packs. Check in at the Smokey Bear Ranger Station in Ruidoso and get information on fire and smoking restrictions. For more information call 575-257-4095.
